All of the world’s Targa events depend on the many volunteers needed to actually operate the special stages and overall competition. Whether you are motivated by motorsport, economic development, a sense of community building, or good old excitement – check out volunteering with Targa Canada West. You won’t be disappointed! Start by reading the introduction to Targa rally volunteering to get a feel for how a rally works and some rally terms. Then consider gaining experience – and having fun – by volunteering at another event like a TSD rally or a gravel stage rally. Here are some in the Pacific Northwest events to consider via www.rallybc.com:
Volunteers are required from operating live stages (experience typically required) to help in keeping the whole show moving forward…..central scoring, or overseeing the operation of the service parks, for example. We welcome new-comers and those live in the community that Targa is visiting, and typically you would be working alongside experienced motorsport volunteers. This gives everyone a chance to learn and get involved. Training is a necessary commitment towards being a TCW volunteer. All volunteers will need to sign waivers as a condition of our insurance. Volunteers as young as 16 years are eligible, but for those 16-18 years their parents must also sign a Parental Consent waiver. (High school principals contacted by TCW have judged the training and event volunteer hours as meeting “community service” definitions.) Specialist volunteer skills in the following are very welcome: emergency services / first aid and HAM radio experience. We would encourage you to take the plunge and be a Targa volunteer. Without your help this important new event on the international calendar can’t happen. Past experience from other Targas in Newfoundland, New Zealand, and Tasmania suggests you’ll have a great time, and return year after year to serve with the same great people.
